Your essential guide to hidden Italy. An introduction to Abruzzo

The Trabocchi Coast

Thinking about adding new destinations and new experiences to your next Italian tour?

With a relatively small territory stretching from the Appennines to the Adriatic Coast, and its proximity to Rome, Abruzzo could represent the perfect alternative to more overrated and overcrowded destinations.

A Region with a lively coastline and a peaceful interior where time seems to stand still.

150 km of sandy and rocky beaches, unspoiled nature, breathtaking landscapes and a local cuisine that reflects the variety of the landscape.

Welcome to Abruzzo! Land of hidden treasures and flavors!

From rugged mountains with picturesque hidden villages, to fertile coutryside full of vineyards and olive groves, to the magnificent coastline, Abruzzo has plenty of opportunities for an unforgettable experience, even if you only have a short time to spend in the Region. Definitely a Region for all seasons!

Do you like traditions and local festivals? Spring might be the right period for you. The Snake Festival in Cocullo, the Banderesi Festival in Bucchianico and the Nuptial Parade in Scanno are experiences not to be missed.

If you are a beach person you must definitely plan a visit in late Spring or Summer, to enjoy beautiful walks on the beach at sunrise, an aperitif at sunset and a scrumptious seafood lunch or dinner on a trabocco fishing hut. No better way to enjoy the real Italian lifestyle!

If you are a passionate foodie and a wine lover, Autumn is definitely the best period for you!

Just imagine spending your holiday going truffle hunting, wine tasting in small boutique wineries, joining a cooking class or olive, grape and saffron harvest. Tempted?

If you are planning a winter trip and you like hiking or skiing, you will find plenty of opportunities in Abruzzo.

What you will find amazing about Abruzzo is that, in every season, you will have the opportunity to combine more than one travel experience. Reaching the beach from the mountain, and viceversa, usually takes only one hour. So, just imagine skiing in the morning and going wine tasting in late afternoon, or walking on the seaside in the morning and enjoying a breathtaking sunset at 1500 mt in the afternoon. It sounds amazing, doesn't it?
